I see the I Am Kloot album is in the UK album charts, having been as high as No. 24, so some members of the public have decent taste. Maybe the time is right for the market to once again accept the Lind style sound?

On an unrelated note, the No 2 album in the UK is by, of all people, Tom Jones.

Yes. Internet is the place for music. Commercial radio - in the States, especially, is pretty much all owned by the same conglomerate and plays off the same rigidly controlled playlist. Not fun for more than a couple of hours a month.

I'm a big fan of listening to people on blip.fm lately. It's not radio, really, and occasionally buggy, but definitely offers up surprises more often than, say, Pandora.

I think the diversity of music is still there, but radio has become so specialised that any given radio station tends to be too predictable.

I occasionally listen to Internet radio stations for progressive rock. If you go to Live365 they boast of having stations in 200+ genres. You want 1970s style progressive rock, they have it. You want C&W, reggae, rap, techno/dance, easy listening Golden Oldies, you can find a station that plays just that category. It's nice listening for a while to a style that I like, but after a while I miss the unpredicatability of free-to-air radio. Also they have no announcers, it's a playlist with occasional advertisements. It is not like listening to a program, more like having a great big jukebox.

Good point, Aussie Bob...that's where I heard "I Just Let It Take Me" - stations would play a diversity of stuff in the '60's - arguably, maybe it was because there WAS such a diversity: instrumentals, novelty songs, love songs, ballads, movie themes, female artists - e.g. "Classical Gas", "They're Coming To Take Me Away", "Joanna", "Ode To Billie Joe", "The Theme From Exodus",Joni Mitchell, The Ronettes.....etc, etc, etc. Anyone from Mrs. Miller, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Nino Rossi, Sky Saxon and The Seeds to The Four Seasons, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, The Brothers Four, Lionel Rose, Peter McKenna AND Bob Lind - my favourite (wink, wink).

We have all moved to the safe centre....much to the detriment of our knowledge hungry appetites (try that for a mixed metaphor)...

There is definitely great music out there still being made.

JJJ is a lot better than commercial radio stations for hearing interesting new music. (For those not from Oz, JJJ is a youth-oriented radio network run by the ABC.) The problem with JJJ though is that they play such a wide variety of music from so many genres that I find much of it unpleasant to listen to.

Whatever happened to radio stations that played mostly mainstream pop that most people could easily take, but every now and again tried something a little adventurous? I remember stations in Melbourne on which you might normally expect to hear The Beatles or Tom Jones or Engelbert Humerdinck, but then out of the blue would play something by Yes (who were very out of the ordinary at the time) or Tangerine Dream. That kind of station does not seem to exist anymore.

Ya know, there IS a lot of great new music around - it's just that it rarely gets an airing on soul-less, money-grabbing, antiseptic commercial radio - I think.

Them are good songs. I can hear the similarity.

I played a few snatches from that. It sounds pretty good, and does remind me a bit of Lind, both the voice and the style.

Too bad they couldn't have come up with something better than that ridiculous band name. It suggests either a psychedelic electronic band or a jokey tongue-in-cheek band like Devo or The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.
