Man, you're incredible. I can't figure out how you guys find this stuff.
No one believes me when I say Petula's is my favorite cover of "Elusive Butterfly." How can that I like this slick musical theatre beauty's version over the ones done by Aretha, Cher, Johnny Mathis's the Four Tops, Hugh Masakela and about 100 others much better known for their soul and passion?
The answer is that her approach is so honest and so, so different from mine. (Some of you already know that I hate it when artists imitate me on my songs.)
Yes, it's glossy, theatrical and stylized. But she does it the way she feels it. She's not afraid to sing only one verse, and makes it work.
Anyone who knows her can tell her I said so.
Thanks so much for this, Rob.

Interesting......Even the colors bring me back to "60's color TV" when you could still adjust the Tint !!
Did a little research (see below) and found some performances of Bob's. Dick Clark's "Where the Action Is" was the first show I ever saw Bob...replete with everyone dancing and clapping on the beach...perform "Mr Zero." I remember thinking to myself ...wow, what a great song.
I believe the Hullabaloo performance of Bob is available on one of the DVD's released of the show. I didn't see a performance on Shindig, which suprises me ....anyone remember?
Bob ....Any recollection of some other shows you may have performed on? It would be great if we could track em' down
You turkeys will be the death of me.
Seeing Petula singing live on the Ed Sullivan show is one thing.
Watching me move my idiot mouth to already-recorded songs in demeaning backdrops while pimply hormone volcanos dance and mouth the words along with me...
That's . . . .well, let's not use a strong work like "hell" but . . . .
Let's hope those tapes have long since bit the cliche-lovin' dust.

Ah c'mon Bob ....This was all great stuff and part of musical legend !! Are you aware of any "live footage" outside of what you have already shared on the site. You know we alll love this stuff !!

Hey - I was 15-16 years old when those shows were on the air. Although, I thankfully wasn't pimply, I WAS a hormone volcano who was watching the shows at home, probably singing along, and thinking that you were some kind of deep, sensitive "older guy". Another 40 year old illusion shattered.
Just kidding Bob!

I like Petula Clark in the same way as I like Oliver....big voice and drama, but with brains enough to pull back the reigns at the right times. I thought I still had her LP that contained her version of 'Butterfly', but I just checked and it's gone......musta sold it off. I could see her shortening it for a TV performance, but strangely enough, her recorded version is just as short.
