At long last a selection. In fact, we have two.

A little bit dusty runs at Southwell today in the 1:50 race. It's a 4 horse race and will probably be a tactical affair. Our selection is almost top weighted but almost bottom rated - just the way I like it. It's on the way in at 11/4. If it stays at 11/4 or shortens, lay the horse to lose. Otherwise, leave it alone.

Monsieur Jamie runs at Southwell today in the 2:50 race. It's a 5 horse race in which none have ever won so it's going to be a bit scrappy. Our selection is almost top weighted but almost bottom rated - just the way I like it. It's on the drift has and out to 7/2. If it comes into 11/4 or less, lay the horse to lose. Otherwise, leave it alone.

1:50 Southwell - A little Bit Dusty - Lay to lose if odds <= 11/4
2:50 Southwell - Monsieur Jamie - Lay to lose if odds <= 11/4

After the races, I'll post the results.

A little bit dusty's odds were 3/1 at the off and too high to be layed to lose. Pity because it came 3rd out of 4. Still, better safe than sorry.

Monsieur Jamie's odds were 11/2 at the off and too high to be layed to lose. Pity because it came last. Still, better safe than sorry.

Here's the stats:

Number of Tips: 8
Number of No Bets: 4 :(

Winning Bets: 3 :D
Losing Bets: 1 :(

Strike Rate: 75% :D

Profit/Loss: +£0.27 :D

Return on Investment: +6.75% :D

This assumes laying for a liability of £1 at exchange odds and 5% commission paid on winnings.

We are now in profit. :D

See you on the morrow.

Smiles.

We have a selection today.

Darkestbeforedawn runs at Plumpton today in the 3:30 race. It's forecast odds were 8/1 but it's already attracting some attention as a result of being tipped by the Racing Post due to its new headgear. It's currently 100/30. My feeling is that new headgear won't do a thing for this horse and people have jumped on a bandwagon to nowhere. If it goes to 3/1 or less, lay it to lose. Otherwise, don't bother.

3:30 Plumpton - Darkestbeforedfawn - Lay to lose if odds <= 3/1

After the races, I'll post the results.

Our selection was sent off at 11/4 and was therefore a bet. It looked a winner all of the way until the last part of the race until it floundered late on (where have we heard that before?) and it came nowhere. That's what we wanted to happen and that's what did happen.

Here's the stats:

Number of Tips: 9
Number of No Bets: 4 :(

Winning Bets: 4 :D
Losing Bets: 1 :(

Strike Rate: 80% :D

Profit/Loss: +£0.57 :D

Return on Investment: +11.40% :D

This assumes laying for a liability of £1 at exchange odds and 5% commission paid on winnings.

We are now in profit. :D

See you on the morrow.

Horses are running around the tracks of Southwell and Ayr today. They are calling it horse racing Jim, but it’s not as we know it. Today’s fiasco is an affront to the good name of racing. Red Rum will be turning in his grave. I simply refuse to select a horse today. It would be unethical. I have standards.

See you on the morrow my malchicks.

We have a selection today.

Long Way Back runs at Punchestown in the 2:40 race today. It's up against better horses which are better handicapped. It's currently 7/2. If it goes to 3/1 or less, lay it to lose. Otherwise, don't bother.

2:40 Punchestown - Long Way Back - Lay to lose if odds <= 3/1

After the races, I'll post the results.

Long Way Back was sent off at 7/2 and was therefore a no bet. It was almost a good job because, from a long way, it looked a winner and didn't falter until the finishing straight. It came in 2nd.

I did consider two selections today but they both represented too much risk and so I've swerved them both.

On the morrow my malchicks.

As it turned out, the two selections that I looked at this morning drifted outside of the value range. They didn't win but it wasn't worth the risk.

On the morrow my malchicks.

At last, a selection.

The 5:20 at Wolverhampton is a bit of an egg and spoon race which is more open than the betting suggests. Rampers looks worth laying to lose at 3/1. If it goes above these odds, I would avoid it.

I'll post the results after the race.

... And Rampers gets sent off at 3/1 and so it was a lay bet. Just as we wanted, it came nowhere.

Here's the stats:

Number of Tips: 11
Number of No Bets: 5 :(

Winning Bets: 5 :D

Return on Investment: +14.11% :D

There's an odds on shot running today that I think may not win and would dearly like to lay it to lose but I fear it may romp home and therefore feel that the risk is too high. It's better to keep one's powder dry and await a better opportunity than to risk it on this type of horse in this type of race.

See you on the morrow, my malchicks.

Yesterday's odds on shot didn't win - as I thought - but wasn't confident enough to risk your hard-earned. Today, there are no selections running.

See you on the morrow, malchicks.

Many moons ago, I bought a book called “211 things a bright girl can do” by Bunty Cutler. It’s got an ISBN and everything. It’s a real hoot and I can thoroughly recommend it. There’s even a chapter in it called “How to look glamorous in a sidecar”. For those not old enough to remember, a sidecar is attached to the side of a motorbike in which a passenger sits – hence its name. Back in my day, when Bob was gracing our auditory cells with Elusive Butterfly, people who wanted a car but couldn’t afford one either did without or bought a motorcycle with a sidecar. Not exactly chic. There were some rude jokes about them too as I recall. So, I bet you can’t wait to find out how a girl can look glamorous in a sidecar. Well, according to Bunty, that’s not possible and she proceeds to tell us how to make a Sidecar cocktail out of brandy, lemon juice and cointreau . Today’s “racing” reminds me of a sidecar. Not exactly chic but functional none-the-less. There are lots of possibilities today but the best is in the 4:55 at Wolverhampton in the shape of World’s Greatest which should be layed to lose if the odds are less than or equal to 5/2. If the odds at the off are greater than 5/2, I would leave it alone if I were you.

A report of the race will follow.

Although World's Greatest came nowhere, the odds increased to 3/1 and was therefore a no bet. Pity. Still, betting on a horse with no value is stupid.
